Dear Friend,
Welcome to our new Web site.
We have updated the site and
plan to stay updated.
Since December 2006, we have
been in a planning process
with the Center for
Non-Profit Management. This
process was completed at our
last Tennessee Drug
Awareness Council Board
meeting in June 2007.
In this planning process, we
have established a
three-year plan for TDAC. We
established an Executive
Committee within our Board
for immediate action
moments. Our general Board
is composed of twelve people
that meet quarterly. Our
Executive committee is
composed of seven people.
The three-year plan is built
around four strategic
directives:
1. Strategic Directive:
Attract more volunteers to
serve as Prevention
Specialists (school
speakers).
Performance Targets for
2007:
Nine new active Prevention
Specialists will be
recruited during 2007 with
the desired geographic
spread as follows:
a. West Tennessee- 2
b. Middle Tennessee-2
c. Northwest Tennessee-2
d. East Tennessee-3
Key actions:
• Conduct a retired teachers
campaign
• Recruit from youth
directors and directors of
missions in Baptist churches
You might like to volunteer
as a TDAC presenter in your
area.
You must be a non-smoker,
non-drinker, and a non-drug
user. Contact Tennessee Drug
Awareness Council at
615-385-2251 or
online for more
information.
2. Strategic Directive:
Raise adequate resources to
operate TDAC in an effective
business like manner.
Performance Targets for
2007:
$40,000.00 additional
donations will be raised in
2007
Key actions:
• Conduct a large donor
campaign
• Conduct a corporate
campaign
• Conduct a church campaign
to bring in one-time gifts
from board member churches.
Note: Each board member will
be expected to bring in
$2,000.00
Tennessee Drug Awareness
Council is 30% funded by the
Golden Offering for
Tennessee Missions from the
Woman’s Missionary Union an
auxiliary to the Tennessee
Baptist Convention. The
balance of our budget
($167,000.00) is funded by
churches, individuals, and
businesses. TDAC is a
non-profit, 501C 3
organization.
3. Strategic Directive:
Insure the sustained
leadership of TDAC, board
and staff
Performance Targets for
2007:
Increase board to 18 active
members spread across the
state and representing
multiple denominations
Attendance at board meetings
for the year will be at
least 75%
Key actions:
• Develop term limits and
other by-law changes to
encourage board diversity
and renewal
• Create a board member
profile to be used in
identifying prospective
board members
• Create a statement of
expectations/commitments for
board members to reenlist
current board members and
recruit new ones.
4. Strategic Directive:
Develop a state wide reality
Performance Targets for
2007:
Make 10 additional
presentations at regional
meetings of Tennessee
Baptist Association meetings
to raise awareness and
elicit support and speak at
civic groups and other
churches.
Key actions:
• Develop a
schedule/calendar of new
presentations
• Develop presentation
• Recruit presenters and
train them on the
presentation
Our charter date for TDAC is
1937 and we do drug
education in public schools.
We have three of us in the
office. Most of our school
programs are done by
volunteers that we train.
Local people do local school
programs.
During the school year
2004-2005 approximately 400
schools across the state
asked us to come to present
at their school. In
2001-2002, some 150 schools
invited us; therefore you
can see we are out growing
our speakers and money. The
TDAC world continues very
busy. I now have been
President of TDAC six years.
The second semester of
2006-2007, TDAC spoke to
46,000 kids so the TDAC
world is a “WOW World”,
telling and warning the
kids.
For the third year we did a
fireworks stand in Haywood
County, my home county. The
fireworks sales happen
quickly from July 1-4th and
then it’s done. Again the
fireworks stand was
successful for TDAC. We plan
to continue this fund-raiser
each year.
Final words:
• We have a plan
• Help us work the plan
1. Volunteer to speak and TDAC will train you.
2. Give money
- we will be
stewards of your gift.
3. Pray for TDAC as we
present the “wiles of drugs”
to the kids - to make good
choices.
If you would like to give
call us at 615-385-2251 or
donate
online.
