Students today are being forced to make
choices regarding alcohol, drugs & tobacco (AD&T) at increasingly early
ages. Studies show that by the 4th grade as many as one out of three
students will experience some form of peer pressure to experiment with AD&T.
Students who experiment in elementary school are far more likely to use
alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in middle and high school leading to a host of
academic and behavioral problems. To make matters worse, many parents fail to address
these issues at home leaving it to the school system to teach drug and alcohol
prevention in an already crowded schedule.
The Tennessee Drug Awareness
Council (TDAC) is here to help you address this problem by
educating your students on the dangers
of alcohol, drugs and tobacco.
We accomplish this by sending prevention specialists to your school at no charge. Our specialists
are volunteers from your local community who are trained by TDAC to deliver an
educational classroom presentation (30-40 min) to students in Elementary and
Middle Schools.
Our program alerts students to
the dangers of experimenting with alcohol, drugs and tobacco by sharing
testimonies from actual students who have “paid the price” of using AT&D (via
DVD format). We teach students how to reject peer pressure and media messaging to
begin experimenting and we encourage students to make good choices for their
better future by discovering their life’s mission to be happy, healthy and
successful students.
We are currently scheduling
programs in your area for the 2010-11 school year including Red Ribbon Week.
